ISO accepts VDM proposal ; GKS Fortran binding
نویسنده
چکیده
VDM. The Information Processing Technical Committee of the International Standards Organization (ISO TC97) has voted to commence work on a virtual device metafile standard for computer graphics. The action passed without a dissenting vote and was assigned to the Graphics Working Group of the Programming Languages Subcommittee (ISO TC97/SC5/WG2). Ten countries, including Canada, Germany, Japan, the UK, and the US, have indicated their intention to participate in this effort. The VDM provides a standardized method of storing graphic images for later processing and of exchanging images between graphics systems. The VDM project complements ISO's current work on the Graphical Kernel System (GKS), which standardizes the application programmer's interface to graphics systems. The VDM project is sponsored by ANSI through the Technical Committee on Computer Graphics (X3H3). X3H3 is making final technical revisions to the VDM working draft, prior to a four-month public review and comment period expected to start this fall. Concurrently, the VDM draft will be processed by ISO TC97/ SC5/WG2 experts on its way to becoming an international standard.

GKS Inquiry Functions within PROLOG
GKS, the international standard for 20 graphics software, provides a set of functionalities which are specified in a language independent manner. However, for GKS to be used, a binding must be defined for some host programming language. To date a FORTRAN binding [1] has been accepted, and proposals for bindings in Pascal [8] and Ada are under consideration in ISO. Possible bindings for C [7] an...
متن کاملDevelopment of a Graphical Display on the Dms Test Bed Final Report
The DMS test bed is a model of a data network aboard Space Station. Users of the network share data relevant to the functional status of various systems (Guidance, Navigation and Control, Environmental Control and Life Support, etc.) aboard the Station. Users may inquire the status of myriad sensors, obtaining readings of Station subsystem status in real-time via the Data Acquisition and Distri...
متن کاملThe Formal Semantics of ISO VDM-SL∗
This paper provides an overview of the formal semantics of VDM-SL which currently is being standardised by ISO. This is a specification language used in the formal method known as the Vienna Development Method (or simply VDM). In this paper we will focus on the foundations and the semantics of a rather unique combination of looseness and recursion.
متن کاملAn Overview of the ISO
VDM-SL, the notation incorporated in the formal method VDM, is currently being standardized under auspices of the International Standards Institution (ISO) and the British Standards Institution (BSI). It is one of the few formal languages of which the syntax and the semantics have been completely formally defined. In this paper we present an overview of the standard, including a report on the c...
متن کاملProperty Orientation in the Model
Formal development methods can be divided into property oriented and model oriented approaches. The Vienna Development Method (VDM) is model oriented in the sense that systems are modelled by means of predeened mathematical objects like sets, sequences and nite mappings. However, property oriented speciication techniques claim to have several advantages, such as to result in more abstract syste...
